Considered by many to be one of the most prolific writers of science fiction, Mike Resnick’s accomplishments include numerous awards from around the world, including the U.S.A., France, Japan, Spain, Croatia, and Poland. This year, Mike received his 31st Hugo nomination; he has won five Hugos to date. His work includes the Santiago series, the Widowmaker series, and the Starship series.
Robert Englund has had a long and illustrious career, but he’s best known for his roles in V as Willy, one of the Visitors who was sympathetic to the human resistance fighters, but more so as the feared Freddy Kruger in the phenomenal Nightmare on Elm Street series as the stalker of sleeping teenagers, killing them in their dreams. Robert agreed to answer a few questions for the Daily Dragon at his Walk of Fame table.
The Miss Klingon Empire Beauty Pageant celebrated its 10th anniversary this year at Dragon*Con. Backstage, contestants snarled over last-minute costume adjustments and fought for the few available safety pins supplied by the human lackeys who scurried to obey their commands. The 2007 Miss Klingon Empire, when asked by the Daily Dragon how she felt about relinquishing her title, growled, “I’ll cut the head off the new winner, and then I’ll have two crowns and a trophy [the upstart's head].”
On June 29th of this year, Don S. Davis, a noted science fiction actor known for his portrayal of Dana Scully’s father in The X-Files as well as Major General George Hammond in Stargate SG-1, passed away suddenly from a heart attack. Mr. Davis had planned to be a guest at Dragon*Con this year, also having been a guest of Dragon*Con 2006. The Stargate: Offworld track scheduled a time for fans to grieve and mourn the passing of this wonderful man.

I was fortunate in garnering interviews with four award-winning authors: Susan Kearney, Sandra Hill, Lori Handeland, and Susan Sizemore. Each of these ladies has published multiple books and experienced great success in the literary world. You can purchase their books at the Missing Volume Science and Fantasy Bookseller at www.themissingvolume.com.
David Nykl, known to science fiction fans as Radek Zelenka, the foil to David Hewlett’s Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis, was gracious enough to sit down with us on the next to last day of Dragon*Con 2008.
Daily Dragon (DD): We know you speak fluent Czech, so do the writers tell you what they want you to say, or do you wing it?
David Nykl (DN): A little of both but mostly I wing it. The writers often write something like …
Sean Astin, best known to con-goers for his role as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings, is attending his first Dragon*Con. He agreed to sit down for a chat with the Daily Dragon. Before we began, Sean said with a wide smile, “I love Dragon*Con. I LOVE Dragon*Con!”
Sunday morning was the last guest-attended panel for Torchwood during Dragon*Con 2008. Gareth David-Lloyd and Anthony Lewis appeared and regaled fans with stories from the set of the British science fiction drama.
