Rocket Scientists of Foot Pound Force to Rock FILK fans

image007Foot Pound Force will perform, in concert, at the Dragon Con Filk Track on Sunday at 11:30PM, Baker (Hy).

Hailing from Huntsville, “Rocket City,” Alabama, the band includes three real-life rocket scientists: Matt Barron on guitar and vocals, David Hewitt on bass and vocals, and Brandon Whitworth on drums.

Describing their style as Nerd Rock, it’s also a “geeky oscillation of rock, cow punk, R&B, funk, jazz and many crazy tangents,” according to Hewitt. He says the group has written and performed songs “celebrating and lampooning breakfast products, video games, social media, science fiction, science and its mad adherents, TV, space travel, hipsters, nerd love, pop culture, engineering, and hackers.”

The band was introduced at last year’s convention on Open Filk. Prior to their concert at Dragon Con, Foot Pound Force performed at the 2010 Huntsville Yuri’s Night Celebration, the 2011 International Space Development Conference, and the 2011 and 2012 PhreakNIC cons in the Nashville area.
