Take Three: Subspace Rhapsody Picture Show

The “Subspace Rhapsody Picture Show & Sing-along,” held for the third year on Friday at 4PM in the Imperial Ballroom in the Marriott, has become a highly anticipated and popular event. Much like the “Buffy Horror Picture Show” held each year by the Urban Fantasy Track, the Trek Track in association with the unofficial Dragon Con Theater and Performing Arts Lovers group holds the event with a shadow cast enacting the scenes as the episode plays in the background. The audience is encouraged to sing along with the words on screen.

The first time the sing along was held, members of the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds attended to share in the excitement of seeing the episode of the same name with a live audience. Later that weekend at a Q&A, the assembled cast promised that if Dragon Con continued to hold the event, then they would turn up. While there weren’t any guests from the show at Dragon Con last year, this year Jess Bush, Celia Rose Gooding, and Anson Mount kept their promise, despite their Q&A being scheduled immediately after at 5:30PM. Though they couldn’t stay for the whole thing, Mount stopped backstage to say hello to the performers while Bush and Gooding stood in the back to watch.

Bush and Gooding took a moment to speak with the Daily Dragon about the event:

Daily Dragon (DD): Can you believe this is a thing that we do every year?

Jess Bush (JB): That this exists rules. I’m so excited to see that this is real.

Celia Rose Gooding (CRG): Yeah, I hadn’t seen anything like this so I’m really excited.

DD: Yeah, we have a lot of fun with it. Did you get to see the Enterprise interpretive dance?

JB: Oh my god, that was very special. Incredible cosplay.

DD: I’m so glad you guys could come and see us do this.

CRG: Thank you for letting us in.

JB: I’ve heard about it, and I am so glad that I’m here for it this year.

DD: How has your Dragon Con been so far?

JB: So… oh, sorry, I’m just getting distracted by this. So, great! I haven’t been here for like 4 years, so I’m really happy to be back for such a special, unique convention. When they asked me if I could come, I agreed in two seconds.

DD: Thank you guys so much. I’ll let you enjoy it.

If you like Star Trek and sing-alongs, I highly recommend you look for this event at Dragon Con 2027!
