The most recent update from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT):
They will be working on the 14th Street Bridge Improvement project over the Labor Day weekend which will result in multiple lane closures where I-75/I-85 Southbound connect.
- Southbound I-75 at Brookwood will be reduced to one lane of traffic at the I-85 merge.
- Southbound I-85 at Brookwood will be reduced to two lanes of traffic at the I-75 merge.
All six lanes of the Downtown Connector will reopen south of 10th Street.
This project begins at 9PM on Friday and will run through 5AM on Tuesday. GDOT stated that they would likely have the lanes blocked even in the event of weather so they can work whenever it clears up.
This will primarily affect traffic north of the 75/85 merge and will cause extreme southbound delays in Midtown and Downtown Atlanta and on both I-85 and I-75 southbound nearing the work zone. Motorists attending Dragon*Con are strongly urged to use MARTA if they can. And drivers traveling to areas outside of Atlanta should use I-285 and go around the city.
