During the Dragon Awards ceremony, Sunday at 4PM in Hyatt Centennial I, several special Dragon Con awards were presented.
The annual Julie Award, established in 1998 in honor of Julius “Julie” Schwartz, is given by a panel of industry professionals in honor of “universal achievement spanning multiple genres.” The 2021 Julie Award recipient is author Chris Claremont, known particularly for his extensive work on the X-Men comic series.
The Eugie Foster Memorial Award for Short Fiction (or Eugie Award), named in memory of the Daily Dragon’s founding director and editor, the late Eugie Foster, celebrates the best in innovative short fiction. The 2021 Eugie Award winner is “The Genetic Alchemist’s Daughter” by Elaine Cuyegkeng.
The Mike Resnick Memorial Award for Short Fiction is an annual award given to the best new unpublished writer of a short story. The award was established jointly in memory of the late author and editor by Dragon Con and Arc Manor, publisher of Galaxy’s Edge magazine, which Resnick co-created. The 2021 Resnick Award winner is “The Measure of a Mother’s Love” by Z.T. Bright.
Finally, the Hank Reinhardt Fan Award, originally called the Georgia Fandom Award but renamed in 2009 after its first recipient, recognizing an outstanding Georgia writer, artist, or fan. The 2021 Reinhardt Award winner is Jeff Moore, long-time volunteer at multiple area fan conventions and current Marriott Director for Dragon Con Safety.
