Each year the Costuming Track offers a wide variety of make-n-take workshops. In these workshops, you receive hands-on instruction on how to perform a skill and have a keepsake to show off your new skill at the end. For this beginner-level workshop, participants learned the basics of completing a chainmail dice bag.
On Friday at 2:30PM in Hilton 306, Ottilie Murray instructed those attending the workshop. She has been doing chainmail work for more than 20 years and that experience showed as she led participants. In this workshop, we learned basic chainmail weaving using a European 4-in-1, the same weave commonly used in chainmail clothing. A kit of anodized aluminum rings and echo-soft leather cord were provided and we were able to use the tools provided (that were not part of the take-home materials). This 2.5-hour workshop was small, which gave Murray the opportunity to work individually with the participants on their dice bags.
We rolled for initiative in joining the workshop and now we can keep our dice well protected.
