Dragon Con artist Melissa Gay brought back a Chesley Award this year for her work entitled Offering. The Chesley category was for Best Game-related Artwork.
“The game I did it for was Michael Bielaczyc’s RPG, Sagaborn (core rulebook),” Gay said. Prints are available in the Art Show’s Print Shop, as well as at Gay’s artist table (BT18). The original is on display (and available for purchase) in her Art Show bay (LB55).
Other works in this year’s show include her new oil painting Harvest, alongside its original concept sketch and a first rendering of the figure. This is the last chance to see the original of Harvest as, immediately after the convention, it will be shipped to its new home.
For the first time this year at Dragon Con, Gay is presenting metal prints of some of her space art, including her space owls and Cosmic Raven. Also available are a hand-embellished print of Firebird and an original acrylic painting of Gay’s little fiery bullfinch called Dark Lord Finch.
Several of these pieces are work Gay did for the Bird Whisperer Project, an art challenge Amanda Makepeace and Gay founded in 2016. Participating artists create imaginative work based on the same reference photo of that month’s bird. New art is posted on the last Wednesday of every month.
ImagineFX Magazine (#165) should be hitting the stands in the United States on or around Dragon Con weekend. The issue features a spread on Gay’s work in the “FXPose” section, showcasing traditional artists.
