Filk to Rock Hyatt International North

The Filk Track will host several concerts Saturday evening, beginning with Brobdignagian Bards and The Blibbering Humdingers at 7PM, International North Ballroom (Hy). They’ll be followed in the same venue by Pandora Celtica at 8:30PM, Dueling Filkers! at 10PM, and finally Foot Pound Force at 11:30PM.

“Filk is not limited to a particular genre. It is the music of the fannish communities,” said Pat deVarennes, “Thing 2” at Dragon Con Filk. deVarennes recalls with “Thing 1” Amber Hansford and Filk Track Director Robby Hilliard (aka “Fearless Leader” and “Cat in the Hat”) that 2009 was their first year with planned performers and programming, with accelerating progress in 2010. “We started having shows in the Hyatt International ballroom sections, crowded Open Filks, and the rest, as they say, is history. Without Tom Smith, the Brobdingnagian Bards (Marc Gunn and Andrew McKee, collectively and individually), and Pandora Celtica, we would not be here.”

She recalls, “A group of frat boys…came in to heckle us. Amber and I had them singing harmony to filk choruses in short order. ;-)”

Foot Pound Force first appeared at the Open Filk in 2012. “In addition to nerdcore, like Foot Pound Force and the Gekkos, we’ve been able to draw in Wizard Rockers, like the Blibbering Humdingers,” deVarennes said. “We are always looking for new faces and new sounds.”
