What an incredible way to open Dragon Con Eve. Two bands new to Dragon Con played Thursday night in the Hyatt Centennial II & III. Snoot, an Atlanta-based band, opened for the first concert at 9:30PM. They were followed at 11PM by Qiet, who came down from Charleston, WV.
According to their website, Snoot is “the grungy offspring of Randy & Kayla Garcia, a couple of nerds who happen to be married. The duo has been surfing a salty wave of fuzz-pop in celebration of their latest EP release, “toonS.” Currently in-studio working on a follow-up LP, Snoot is further developing their off-beat humor and on-point rock chops by crafting a new batch of tunes that cover a broad range of topics: sci-fi and video game narratives, self-love and body acceptance, free thought, and tongue-in-cheek political critiques.” Their Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/snootband.
Qiet (pronounced Quiet) is also new. Why the name spelling? According to band members, “they are quiet with you” (neat play on words). With an intro like this, you’re bound to intently want all the information, which you can get by reading the following paragraph from their website:
“Qiet is the culmination of this wild and wondrous world, infused with every culture on the planet and refined in the mountains of West Virginia. Our songs radiate an undeniable energy, passionate lyrics and humor dark as coal. A balance of high-energy chaos and perfect order, Qiet’s visceral performances will keep you dancing long after the concert’s over. Combining the elegant excesses of 1920s jazz with the unpredictability of pure punk rock, what results is not just a show—it is an experience.” Their Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/qietmusic.
Both bands were exceptional, and each brought a unique flavor to the table. People were drawn in from the concourse by their talent. If you get the chance, check them out. It really is worth your time.
