It’s such a good idea, such an obvious one, that it’s hard to believe that somebody hasn’t done it already. A television program covering science fiction and science fact, SFN (Science Fiction News) is the brainchild of Don Black, who started the video news magazine on basic cable in 1990. Since then, he has conducted hundreds of celebrity interviews with the likes of Robin Curtis, Stan Lee, and the cast of Babylon 5. The show is broadcast on PBS is California, but Black thinks the time is right to expand to other markets, particularly with his redesigned format and new anchors.
For the panel, Black was joined by the show’s hosts Jeff Rector and Andrea Thompson. Rector is a successful actor, writer, and director – his film Fatal Kiss, starring James Karen, Ted Raimi, and Carel Struycken has just been bought for HBO, and the uncut version was premiered at Dragon*Con on Friday evening. Andrea Thompson is best known to Dragon*Con visitors as Talia Winters on Babylon 5 but lately has turned her attention toward journalism, thus making SFN a perfect fit.
A future episode of SFN will feature coverage of Dragon*Con 2002, along with interviews of conventioneers.
