The Kaleidoscope Track is new at Dragon*Con. This panel on Phineas and Ferb was held Sunday afternoon in the Marriott L405-L406. It filled so quickly participants waited outside the door for the chance to take a seat vacated by another leaving the room.
Children from the ages five to twelve made up about a third of the audience. The panelists conducted a round-table discussion, and at first, the children were a little hesitant to participate. But as the panel treated the children with respect, they quickly rose to the occasion and soon started opening up and asking more complex questions.
The children’s questions ranged from, “Why is Ferb’s hair green?” to the more complex, “If Buford is such a bully, why does he care so much for his goldfish and teddy bear?” Even the adults felt comfortable posing questions or comments, not having to worry about being treated like a child.
As the panel came to a close, a drawing was held for several prizes. Tickets had previously been handed out as people entered the room. Even though not everyone won something, everyone left with huge smiles on their faces.
This is one of several panels the Kaleidoscope Track conducted. This track definitely deserves more space and recognition for its design in incorporating kids to the con. Every panel this track presented filled quickly and included a line waiting to get in. Next year, plan on visiting, with or without children, this new adventure at Dragon*Con.
