If you like history and science fiction, this was a must-see panel at the AmericasMart Building 2 Room 204J. Moderator Sean Callot headed this panel of talented authors well-versed in the genre of alternate history. The panelists were S.M. Stirling, Michael J. Martinez, Dr. Charles E. Gannon, and Gregory F. Withrow.
Writing well is a difficult process. You need to have all of your background information in place to write an effective story. With alternate history, however, As Stirling stated, “All of the depth and background is already there.” Writers of this genre use history as their backdrop. Using factual information, they spin fiction into the mix to create intriguing stories for the reader’s entertainment.
When asked why they write alternate history stories, Withrow made an excellent statement: “I can make anyone I want win.”
