“Dragon*Con’s digital art show is one of a kind for genre fandom,” said audre, the digital show’s director. Located in Artist Alley (Marriott Imperial Ballroom), “get art the way you want,” is the slogan for the program. The show within the art show offers digital art in a variety of media: glossy canvas, glossy Light Jet™, matte Light Jet™, and metallic Light Jet™ as well as full color T-shirts and mousepads.
Light Jet™ is a $150,000 printer that prints in “RGB” (red-green-blue). This process allows bright, accurate reproduction of digital art with a greater color spectrum and vibrancy than traditional paint, inkjet, or offset printing. Longevity is an added benefit of the pieces that are rated at 100% for 60 years. The metallic Light Jet™ offers a lustrous, mother of pearl effect which is not available anywhere else. Light objects in a picture glow and shimmer as light plays over the metallic print.
The digital art show offers true “print on demand.” Items ordered by noon on each convention day through Sunday may be picked up on the same day by 5:00 p.m. Monday orders will be shipped to the buyer with a $10 fee for all but T-shirts that are shipped for free. After Monday, the Dragon*Con web store will offer digital art all year long. Art fans should look for an announcement next month.
TR Digital is the official printer for the digital art show with Atticwear.com providing T-shirt printing. Atticwear is raffling a Carrara 3.0 studio, a 3D modeling and professional rendering system. No purchase is necessary to enter at Atticwear’s Exhibitor’s booth (No. 301) in the Marriott Marquis ballroom.
