The Beginnings of Chainmail with Tattoo Santa

This pre-paid workshop Friday 2:30PM at the Hilton Room 306 with Tattoo Santa was an intimate session learning the basics of chainmail through completing a fantastic rainbow wrist band made with metal and rubber rings.

Tattoo Santa was so much fun. All of the 20 participants loved spending time with this knowledgeable man. His patience and love of the art was evident. Santa has been teaching classes at various levels for over 20 years.

As a participant, I have to admit that it was a little intimidating at first. This craft was new to me, and I had a little difficulty deciphering the pattern. Santa was so patient and methodical in walking me through this snag, letting me do the work so that I could understanding the process it. Then, I had that “a-ha” moment. It clicked. I finished the basic weave to be able to wear it out of the workshop. With the other rings and tools included, I can now expand the width with two colors of purple, deep red, and cobalt blue. There were also printed instructions so that I would not forget how to do it.

All of the participants got as far as the basic bracelet. Some picked up on it faster and had proceeded to adding the new colors to the width. It was so much fun to do this project.

Would I take this workshop again? Absolutely. Would all of us recommend taking it? Again, without hesitation. As one of the participants stated, “It’s cool to make something more than a piece of art. It’s making memories you can wear any time.”
