Kelly McCorkendale

Kelly McCorkendale is a dog-lover, avid quilter, and occasional creative writer who loves the color orange and boycotts cable (except Game of Thrones because, well, what if winter is coming!?). After college, she realized poets weren’t in demand, so she shipped off to Madagascar with Peace Corps. Since then, she’s found a niche working on health systems in Africa but has a long-list of life tasks yet to be fulfilled--such as perform blackmail, learn a trade, and become a competitive eater. She has an MA in International Education, believes rice is the elixir of life, and, in high school, won the best supporting actress honor for the state of Missouri. She may also recite poetry (her first love) when imbibing in alcohol.

“The Donner Question” Day Three: Spock versus Picard

Welcome to today’s almost-all-celebrity edition of “The Donner Question,” known colloquially as “Who would you eat?” Today’s focus is Spock and Picard, but before we get there, let’s revisit Jon Snow versus Tyrion Lannister. To the girl I panned yesterday for not knowing who Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister are, I apologize. Turns out, you are in good company. Sandra… Read more →

The Endlessly Delightful, Always Effervescent, Wonderfully Wild Sylvester McCoy: “A Visit with the Seventh Doctor”

The auditorium wasn’t quite packed, but thunderous applause greeted Sylvester McCoy as he entered the Sheraton Grand Ballroom on Sunday at 1PM for his final panel at his fourth Dragon Con. The moderator described McCoy as one of the most popular and, certainly, most loved and of the guests. He is also incredibly comical and entertaining—a man who knows how to… Read more →

Women Facing Challenges in the Film Industry

Filmmaking does not favor the female. Few movies feature a female antagonist, and even fewer have women at the helm as director, producer, or writer. “Behind the Scene: Women Working in Today’s Film Industry,” Saturday at 5:30PM in Fairlie (Hy), offered perspectives from four women currently working in the industry on how to overcome the obstacles and stay positive to… Read more →

Palling Around with the Men of Middle-earth

A rapt audience filled the Marriott Atrium Ballroom on Saturday to enjoy the company of some very accomplished gentlemen. “Five Amazing Middle-earth Celebrity Guests” featured a wizard, a Steward of Gondor, and several dwarves from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy to talk about the process of making such monumental films and bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s… Read more →

“The Donner Question” Day Two: Lord Varys versus Littlefinger

Today’s version of this highly unscientific and morbidly gross poll was a tie! People would eat Littlefinger and Lord Varys in equal measure (don’t worry I also continued the Jon Snow/Tyrion Lannister pairing, and Jon is making a late-game surge in the race for survival). Lee from Alabama would eat Lord Varys because he believes “if you have Littlefinger on… Read more →

Game of Thrones: Three Characters Still Alive

Editor’s Note: This show airs on HBO and contains copious amounts of nudity, mature content, and adult language. This article may contain the same. Well, maybe not the visual nudity.
