Where else would it be natural for one lingerie-clad redhead to hold her sword up as an impromptu mirror for another winged beauty to check her make-up? Why the Dawn Look-Alike Contest, of course!

Backstage was a wondrous array of beauty, grace, and camaraderie.  Rose red, leaf green, deep purple, shiny black, and shimmering silver cloth adorned the back room; wings a-flutter, roses a-bloom, fiery red …

Thirty-five years of rock & roll hit the stage of the Centennial ballroom on Sunday night.  The only band to be nominated for a Science Fiction Hugo award, Jefferson Starship demonstrated that SciFi influence as well as their trademark San Francisco sound.   But the band wasn’t interested in demonstrating anything, or performing …

The only catch to my enjoyment of the Jefferson Starship concert was knowing that I was probably going to miss the Crüxshadows, scheduled in the Regency Ballroom the same night.  But, in typical Dragon*Con fashion, everything was late, so I clung to a wisp of hope.

When I arrived, the darkened Regency room was clustered body-to-body, standing room only.  A throbbing …

Klingon warriors growled; Federation officers grumbled, all impatient for the beauteous and fearsome Klingon lovelies to take the stage for the 2002 Miss Klingon Empire Beauty Pageant. Something had to be done. A valiant Klingon warrior sprang to action. Harassing and terrorizing the audience, he grabbed random people and dragged them …

3-Axis introduced Poser 5, the latest Poser release by Curious Labs, to an eager audience. This software renders 3D objects in an interactive environment for animation or 2D creation. A demonstration of its capabilities was conducted outside the art show by the Steve Cooper banner.

Being new to Poser myself, I was amazed by the complexity of the textures and environmental controls. The “random morphed face” option allows users to create a unique face using the render engine based …

Dragon*Con 2002 is a good year for the art show so far. Approximately 3 months ahead of schedule, the art show was sold out. Seems that more bays and panels are available for show this year. Professional artists mingled with amateur artists to discuss tips and opinions with each other. It allowed the artists to tour the art show and vote and opine before they have to sit and not get a chance to mingle do to other obligations that …

Ghoultown gave a high energy, choreographed show. Their set included about 10 songs covered off their new and old album. Energy ripped through the crowd and created a mosh pit even during the slow song “Night of the Living Dead” and the occasional bad microphone work. Seems the plague of technical skill at sound boarding is persistent, but this didn’t hinder the crowd from jumping and leaping and joining in chorus to the charismatic band. The mosh pit was full …

Looking much like his sexy/sophisticated smooth-voiced character, Ethan Rayne, on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, Robin Sachs entered the packed Montreal/Vancouver room dressed in a white t-shirt and slim-fitting jeans to do an hour long “Meet Ethan Rayne” Q & A.

Sachs struck quite the muscle-bound figure as he good-naturedly flexed and posed for the shutterbug contingent.  It turns …

Renderosity is a company dedicated to furthering the graphic technology, and the artists that use it.  Their website gets 91 million hits and transfers 30 gigabytes of information a day.  They have an active user base of one hundred thousand artists and professionals and the group grows by approximately 200 users a day.  Not bad for having roughly 45 employees.  These statistics were given to me by a lovely informal lunch by Clint Hawkins (Clint H to Renderosity users) and …
