Mad, Biting Cows Threaten Writers’ Track Audience

Tales of biting cows threatened to turn otherwise tame writers feral during a Writers’ Track research panel on Sunday afternoon. What could have been a deadly dull panel on research dos and don’ts became an amusing showcase of research disasters. Among the research mistakes described by panelists were pregnant mules and a bizarre magical village perched atop an active volcano…. Read more →

Thursday Night Concerts at Dragon*Con

Though Dragon*Con does not officially start until Friday those who came on Thursday still had entertainment. To begin the night’s performance Venus Falling, tech-op’s own Chris Camillo, kicked things off in the Hyatt’s Centennial Ballroom. He was a last minute replacement of C.O.G. who could not buy the gas to make it to Dragon*Con due to Hurricane Katrina. Belljar, a… Read more →

Parade Doubles from Last Year

The Dragon*Con Parade (Sat 10AM) promises to double in size this year. Last year, 460 participants marched through Atlanta streets. This year, 850 people of all ages have signed up and more continue to join the ranks. Free Speech Endangered

Sexually explicit expression is under attack, warned a Dragon*Con Electronic Frontiers Forums (“EFF”) panel Friday night.  What can happen if you don’t copy records which prove the age of everyone baring all, etc., etc., in your webcam streaming video?  You can go to jail.  For a long time.  And this doesn’t involve passing go or collecting $200 in Monopoly bucks…. MirrorMask

Michael Polis of the Jim Henson Company presented a stunning preview and a few short clips from the upcoming film MirrorMask. MirrorMask, which combines the storytelling talents of Neil Gaiman and the incredible artwork of Dave McKean, is the story of Helena, a fifteen-year-old girl working for her family circus, who wishes—quite ironically—that she could run away from the circus… Read more →

Ready, Get Set, Talk: Speed Dating in Buffy Track

“Ready, get set… talk!” And so began the most interesting entry I’ve ever seen in the schedule grid: “Buffy/Angel Speed Dating.” More than 50 voices fill the room with the cacophony of more than 25 separate conversations. Each person talks to the person across from them. It’s a way to overcome the inevitable impersonalization that has occurred as Dragon*Con became… Read more →

Breakfast in the Village

Fans of The Prisoner fear sharing the same fate as Firefly. Plans for a Prisoner movie stalled last summer though new and old fans are buying DVDs of the 1960s TV series. It depicted one man’s struggle for individuality after being kidnapped from his London flat and imprisoned on a well-guarded island. They called him No. 6. The character played… Read more →

Andromeda: The Final Verdict

Looking for answers about what happened on Andromeda, I depended on a Saturday panel to do more than live up to its name, “Andromeda: The Final Verdict.” Though still unsure of the concrete explanations behind the episode plots, I learned I wasn’t the only one struggling. Andromeda is even more complicated than I thought. First, there are three Andromedas. And,… Read more →
